It’s Time To Rally!

Are you ready for a 2A Rally?
It’s time to remind the gun-grabbers that we’re still here, and we still VOTE.

If you have been outraged by anti-gun propaganda rallies and blatant calls to repeal the 2nd Amendment, then this rally is your chance to speak out against those who would take your rights.
Let’s swarm the Capitol grounds, and show this state that we will not give up our rights quietly.

DATE: Saturday, April 14, 2018
TIME: 11am until 1pm (or later)
PLACE: Connecticut State Capitol, 210 Capitol Ave, Hartford

It will once again be at the State Capitol, north side facing Bushnell Park. All lawful forms of carry are permitted on the Capitol grounds, but remember Bushnell Park is a so-called “Gun Free Zone“.

More info coming soon, as final details get hammered out.

Honorable Judiciary Committee Member,

I ask that you OPPOSE H.B. 5540 An Act Concerning Ghost Guns and the Permit Application Process and OPPOSE H.B. 5542 An Act Concerning Bump Stocks and Other Means of Enhancing the Rate of Fire of a Firearm.

Bump Stocks enable bump fire, Bump fire is a technique that is achievable without a device. Some proponents of this bill will say bump stocks allow the firearm to operate as a fully automatic firearm. This is not true; bump stocks do not convert semi-automatic firearms to full automatic firearms, the trigger only fires one round per single pull.

Thank you,

As a Connecticut resident, I urge you to re-think “Feel Good” pieces of legislation and focus on “Do Good” legislation during this session. I will address three specific bills, “Bump Stocks”, “Ghost Guns” and firearms carry in state parks.

  • Bump Stock Bans –The bump stock ‘ban’ mania is being used to shoehorn in legislation that is so loosely worded that it could be applied to almost anything. This is yet another effort at nibbling away our rights as gun owners under the pretext of a tragedy. Since bump stocks are not registered, serialized or tracked, how would you ban them? The costs to set up and try to enforce this legislation are a total waste of taxpayer money, with zero useful results. AR-15’s and related platforms and greater than 10 round magazines are already ‘banned’ in CT.
  • “Ghost” guns – Certain firearms without a serial number, made from so called “80%” lowers are perfectly legal to complete and own. They pose no additional threat to the public at large. Making an 80% lower into a firearm for resale is already illegal, unless you have a manufacturers license, and then the firearms must have serial numbers stamped on them. Making any ‘banned’ weapon like an AR-15 from an 80% lower is also illegal. Criminals, when asked how they obtain their firearms, almost never say they ‘made them themselves’. They generally steal them or engage a straw purchaser, which are also illegal activities. While tracing serial numbers might aid in tracing the provenance of a firearm used in a crime, it doesn’t stop the crime from happening in the first place. This is yet another “feel good” law that doesn’t actually “do good” in reducing crime.
  • Carry in state parks – A state park is land owned by the public, and opened to the use of all citizens. State parks are no different in that respect than federal lands or our roadways. The unique factor with state parks is that they general have little to no law enforcement presence. Personal (and to a lesser extent, animal) attacks on people frequenting state parks cannot be curtailed by law enforcement. Since legal firearms carry has not been shown to have increased the safety risk in other locations, it seems reasonable that firearms carry should be legalized in state parks. The federal government has already taken steps to permit firearms carry in federal parks, and we should also do the same.

A recent Connecticut study showed firearms charges being dropped in over 70% of cases involving gun use during the commission of a crime. This suggests that we don’t enforce the laws we have, never mind adding new ones that cannot be reasonably enforced. Please stop passing “Feel Good” laws that have no impact other than to curtail our rights.

Respectfully,
