2020 Testimony – 92

Dear Senator Winfield, Representative Stafstrom, Distinguished Members of the Judiciary Committee,

Oppose H.B. 5448: AN ACT CONCERNING A RISK PROTECTION ORDER OR WARRANT, Support H.B. No. 5390: AN ACT CONCERNING THE DUTY TO RETREAT IN A HOUSE OF RELIGIOUS WORSHIP, Support H.B. No. 5432 AN ACT CONCERNING NONLETHAL ELECTRONIC DEFENSE WEAPONS

H.B. 5448 – CT already has an ERPO process, and we know that 40% of the cases are dismissed, but not before greatly impacting the accused.  And now you want to make it even easier, for far more people, to impact the innocent even worse?  Where is the logic in that?  When are you going to start targeting actual criminals, that have already committed a crime?  When are you going to reinstate the Firearms Trafficking Task force?

I urge you to support H.B 5390 and remove the obligation to retreat in a place of worship.

I also support H.B 5432 and hope you will as well.

Thank you.

Judiciary Committee, Public Hearing on HB 5448, HB 5390, HB 5432

I oppose H.B. 5448.  This bill ignores due process, putting the burden of proof innocence on the accused.  When in America did we decide that not everyone deserves due process, an opportunity to be heard and defend themselves before their rights are taken from them.  This is the face of tyranny!

I ask you to Support H.B 5390 allowing legal permit holders to protect themselves in a place of worship.

Please Support H.B 5432 to allow Connecticut residents more options in self-defense.

Sincerely,

Dear Judiciary Committee,

Please oppose H.B. 5448.

This bill turns a temporary order into a permanent one without any concern for due process, with no participation of the accused, or without any independent investigation into the matter.   The bill gives no details on counsel for the respondent, the respondent’s ability for their own witnesses or cross‐examine others. The unintended consequence of this bill is that gun owners will no longer seek mental health treatment because of fear of losing their rights.

Support H.B 5390 allowing legal permit holders to protect themselves in a place of worship.

Support H.B 5432 to allow Connecticut residents more options in self-defense.

Best regards,

Dear Senator Winfield, Representative Stafstrom, Distinguished Members of the Judiciary Committee,

I strongly urge you to oppose H.B. 5448.  Currently, the risk warrant is available to anyone at any time with police arriving immediately.  It makes no sense for someone to wait till the courthouse opens to file for an “extreme risk” warrant, if someone is so concerned that someone is at “extreme risk” they should act immediately, not the next business day. Do not pass feel good legislation that has no evidence to support it. Oppose HB5448.

Please support H.B 5390 which will allow legal permit holders to protect themselves in a place of worship.

Support H.B 5432 to allow Connecticut residents more options in self-defense.

Best regards,

Judiciary Committee,

Please:

Oppose H.B. 5448,

Support H.B. No. 5390,

Support H.B. No. 5432

You must oppose H.B. 5448.  How anyone can think that taking someone’s property and stripping them of their rights should be done based on just accusations is unbelievable.  This is like 3rd World Country policing.  You must oppose HB 5448.

Please support H.B 5390 as we have seen in Texas and other states, there’s no substitute for immediate armed response in the event of an active shooter.

Finally, I hope that you will also support H.B 5432.

Thank you.

Dear Judiciary Committee,

I Oppose H.B. 5448, I Support H.B. No. 5390, I Support H.B. No. 5432

I urge you to oppose H.B. 5448.  This is just wrong that someone can have their civil rights stripped and be forced to get rid of their legally owned property without the due process Americans expect.  Where are the penalties for anyone filing a false claim?  Why should someone be forced to spend thousands of dollars in lawyer fees to defend against accusations that aren’t even independently investigated.  This is just wrong on so many levels.  Please oppose HB 5448

Please support H.B 5390 removing the obligation to retreat in a place of worship.

Finally, I hope that you will also support H.B 5432 which allows Connecticut residents more options in self-defense.

Thank you.

H.B. 5448 is a horrible bill that targets gun owners by stripping them of their 2nd, 4th and 14th Amendment rights.  It’s unbelievable that we even have to have this discussion in America!

Please support H.B 5390 removing the obligation to retreat in a place of worship.

Finally, I hope that you will also support H.B 5432 which allows Connecticut residents more options in self-defense.

Dear Senator Winfield, Representative Stafstrom, Distinguished Members of the Judiciary Committee,

I oppose H.B. 5448 and urge you to also oppose it.  This bill ignores due process, putting the burden of proof innocence on the accused.  I can see all kinds of opportunity for abuse of this bill.

I hope that you will support H.B 5390 allowing legal permit holders to protect themselves and others in a place of worship.

Members of the Judiciary Committee,

One study looked at suicide in Connecticut. Connecticut’s estimated reduction in firearm suicides was offset by increased non-firearm suicides. This bill will cause gun owners to not seek the mental health treatment. Join me in opposing H.B. 5448 and supporting H.B. 5390 and H.B. 5432.

Best Regards,

2020 Testimony – 83

The Judiciary Committee,

I am writing in regards to HB 5448, HB 5432, HB 5390. An Act Concerning a Risk Protection Order or Warrant. This bill is nothing more than a mask over a gun grabbing agenda. There are current laws written making offenses with firearms illegal, as well as domestic violence offenses. Please make harsher penalties for offenders of our current Red Flag Laws and do not target law abiding citizens. Stripping people’s ability to defend themselves personally and legally is in direct contradiction to the very core of the legal and judicial process.

OPPOSE HB 5448 AN ACT CONCERNING A RISK PROTECTION ORDER OR WARRANT.

SUPPORT HB 5432 AN ACT CONCERNING NONLETHAL ELECTRONIC DEFENSE WEAPONS.

SUPPORT HB 5390 AN ACT CONCERNING THE DUTY TO RETREAT IN A HOUSE OF RELIGIOUS WORSHIP.

Concerned Citizen,
