Statement on primary endorsements:

The Connecticut Citizens Defense has worked to evaluate numerous candidates for the August 14th primary election. As an organization, we ask our members to consider our endorsements when weighing their decision making, and help our endorsed candidates win their respective elections. Over the last eight years, legal gun owners and applicants for gun permits have been subject to unfair practices by our governor, certain legislators as well as several municipalities. 2018 can be a different outcome for lawful and responsible gun owners.

About the CCDL: The Connecticut Citizens Defense League was formed in 2009 by a small group of concerned citizens as a non-partisan organization to advocate second amendment rights in the state of Connecticut. Since their founding, the group has grown to over 30,000 members across the state. Thanks to this large supportive base across the state the CCDL has become a fixture at the Capitol, and well-recognized by committees that see firearms related bills.

As the go-to organization in the state they are consulted regularly by lawmakers who have questions and concerns about pending legislation or existing laws. For more information on the CCDL please visit www.CCDL.us

2A candidates need our help!

One of the biggest concerns friendly legislators have is who will help them win re-election if they vote against gun control legislation. Gun-grabbing politicians always seen to have people working on their campaigns.

If “we” are going to stop bad gun bills, we need to become more political than we have in the past. While CCDL has a positive track record on some political campaigns, we need more success across the state.

Judiciary Votes To Raise More Gun Bills

Today the Connecticut Judiciary Committee met and voted to raise two more gun related bill concepts this legislative session, An Act Concerning Lawfully Carrying Firearms in State Parks and An Act Concerning Lifetime Ammunition Permits.
We do not have the bill numbers or language at this time. The Judiciary Committee just voted to raise the bill concepts and will hold a public hearing soon (date to be determined).

You can see the full agenda of today’s meeting here: https://www.cga.ct.gov/2018/JUDdata/ca/2018ca-00221-R001100JUD-ca.htm

Be sure that you are receiving CCDL’s member emails which include our action alerts. Normally we send out 1-2 emails a month, so if you haven’t seen an email from us in a while, make sure you check your spam folder and white-list us. We usually only get a few days advance notice on public hearings, so it’s important you find out about them as soon as possible.

Press Release – Parkland, Florida

02/15/2018
For Immediate Release:
The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (the state’s largest grass roots gun rights group) makes a statement on yesterday’s Florida shooting.

Comment from CCDL President Scott Wilson:
“While we wait for more facts to come out from the investigation, we know that the person responsible for this mass murder was someone who was a known threat to the safety of students and staff at this school. With this in mind, we wonder if more could have been done to protect this school. We also believe that the behavioral red flags being mentioned in current media reports should have been taken seriously and addressed proactively by those who were aware.”

Wilson Added:
“While some politicians are calling for more laws that will do nothing, the public should be aware that numerous existing laws were broken in this mass murder, and more laws will not stop a deranged person from killing.”

“In the meantime, our hearts go out to the families of these victims. We continue to oppose violent crime. All violent crime, not just those committed with firearms.”
